Is tempera cracking during drying?

Have any of you ever looked for a compendium of knowledge about tempera paint? We know you won’t find such an item on library shelves or in digital repositories. Or at least so far, because we are currently researching another property of tempera – drying shrinkage.

In this way, we are enlarging the database of properties on which we will base numerical models, so important for preventive conservation. Presently, the database contains information about sorption and Young’s modulus of tempera with three different pigments: azurite, ocher and lead white.

We will inform you immediately when the results are published!

The research is part of the CRAQUELURE project financed by the Norwegian Financial Mechanism 2014-2021, contract number 2019/34/H/HS2/00581.
