CollectionCare: Computational modeling takes center stage during stay-at-home orders

Although it is not possible to remotely conduct laboratory experiments, nothing has stopped us from continuing to develop computational models while working from home! The mobility of these computational strategies has played a key role in enabling ongoing research in recent months.

Last week, we summarized our progress toward models of historical material degradation in discussion with other CollectionCare partners. The project divides the research program into four main material tracks: canvas paintings, wooden objects, metal objects and paper cultural artefacts. A computational model is being developed for each of them, which will help predict the impact of external factors on object degradation.

Of course, we would have preferred to host our colleagues in Krakow as initially planned, but our online consultations were still extremely fruitful and we are excited for the road ahead.
