After
several years of research work in the Institute for the Preservation of
Cultural Heritage at Yale University, Dr. Łukasz Bratasz wins the first place
among 22 successful candidates of the ‘Polish Returns’ programme coordinated by
the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA). The first edition of
the programme attracted 108 applications. The laureate specializes in the
scientific investigation of cultural heritage objects, an interdisciplinary
research field answering questions formulated by art historians and
conservators, in their essence from the area of humanities. The aim of the
project is to develop physical model of pictorial layers of paintings, to
elucidate mechanism of crack formation in the layers as well as better
exploitation of the heritage science potential by Polish museums. The project
will strengthen the position of Institute’s heritage science group in the
international research network. On November 14, Łukasz Bratasz participated in
the press conference – during which the outcome of the programme was announced
– in which Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and Higher Education
Jarosław Gowin participated together with NAWA’s director Łukasz Wojdyga.
