Investigating cracks in paintings on the SOLEIL synchrotron

The formation of cracks in paintings has many aspects – not only mechanical, but also chemical. Answers to the question about the processes taking place near the fracture can be provided by the distribution of the chemical composition in its vicinity.

Such a study at the SOLEIL synchrotron near Paris is conducted by Łukasz Bratasz together with a group of researchers, including: Patrick Kekicheff, Mikkel Scharf, Laura Fuster Lopez, Cecil Krarup Andersen and Aleksandra Hola. It is a joint initiative of the GRIEG, CollectionCare and NAWA projects.
