Experience exchange by the Seine

Within the PROM program scholarship, Katarzyna Poznańska took part in a three-week internship at the Laboratoire d’Archéologie Moléculaire et Structurale (LAMS) at the Sorbonne Université thanks to the hospitality of Prof. Maguy Jaber. The LAMS laboratory specializes in the study of materials and techniques used in heritage science. They conduct research on the structure and behavior of tempera paints using techniques such as NMR relaxometry and rheological studies to understand binder-pigment interactions. The visit enabled the exchange of knowledge and experience in research on tempera paints. During the stay in Paris, Katarzyna measured the properties of tempera paints and prepared samples for further tests, which we will be performed in our laboratory.

In the meantime, she could not miss visiting museums and searching for craquelure in paintings: the Middle Ages in the Musée de Cluny, Musée du Louvre, and Musée d’Orsay.

As the university’s campus is right next to Notre Dame Cathedral, it was possible to observe the state of reconstruction work after the 2019 fire.
