We spent the last days of September with the PVCare project partners at a meeting organized by the team of prof. Matija Strlič from the University of Ljubljana. During the second year of joint research on the degradation of objects made of plasticized poly(vinyl chloride), we proposed a plasticizer migration mechanism based on which the plasticizer release rate will be determined. In combination with extensive spectroscopic characterization describing the rate of PVC discoloration, one of the outcomes is to propose a damage function that will help to estimate the lifetime of PVC objects.
