We are happy to share with you an interactive scan of panel painting from one of Krakow’s collections, which allows us, and now also you, to study craquelures!
The image is interactive – play with it. A full gallery of scans is available by clicking here.

Fully automated scan of the craquelures of the Virgin and Child by unknown author (XVth century) from the treasury of St. Mary’s Basilica in Krakow was carried out by us using HIROX microscope. Our colleague Sergii Antropov put a lot of effort into image processing, and Ćukasz Berger supported him in developing the online sharing strategy.
The research was performed within CRAQELURE project funded by Norway Grants 2014-2021, project number 2019/34/H/HS2/00581.

Amazing scans! Congratulation to the entire team that was involved on these scan, the results look excellent!
It’s a very impressive use of the HIROX system and I hope many people will have the chance to look at it!
Best regards,
Emilien Leonhardt,
