This year, as any previous year, we took part in the unique on the Polish scale conference ‘Chemical Analysis in the Protection of Cultural Heritage Objects’. For the first time it was held online, but it did not prevent the gathering of nearly 200 participants.
Dr. hab. Łukasz Bratasz, as one of the conference organizers, chaired the first session of papers, opened by a very interesting plenary lecture by prof. Heinz Eberhard Mahnke from Freie Universität Berlin. During the speech entitled “Virtual Unfolding of Folded Papyri” prof. Mahnke presented one of the most interesting applications of computed tomography in the protection of cultural heritage: the possibility of recreating the appearance of a papyrus, impossible to develop mechanically, and often even found after pyrolysis, along with reading the text written on it.
The author of one of the speeches in the same session was our colleague from the group, Magdalena Soboń, who presented the results of modeling the risk of wooden sculptures (and other massive objects) cracking as a result of dynamic climate fluctuations, conducted under the supervision of Dr. Bratasz.

We are glad that despite the pandemic, the interest in sharing knowledge and research results among a wide range of scientists and professionals in the field is not weakening!
