The Unicorn Rests in a Garden (from the Unicorn Tapestries) 1495–1505, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Nowy Jork, USA.

Assessment of wool deterioration in historic tapestries to support their conservation.

The aim of the project is to develop a set of tools for evaluating the deterioration of wool in historic tapestries, thereby significantly facilitating decisions regarding the most appropriate moment to reinforce weakened tapestries with supporting fabrics, as well as the optimal techniques for attaching these fabrics.

The project is based on collaboration between two laboratories: the Jerzy Haber Institute of Catalysis and Surface Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences, and the Laboratory for Research on Polymer Durability and Degradation at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Jagiellonian University, with the support of two major institutions that preserve historic tapestries: Wawel Royal Castle and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
