The project PRELUDIUM 19 experiments have advanced significantly since the successful tests of the measurement methodology. Moreover, the results obtained with the “wedge splitting method” gave rise to new research questions.
Magda SoboĊ, who conducts the experiments, received a scholarship from the ERASMUS+ program (2021-1-PL01-KA131-HED-000005650) for a two-week training in the group of Prof. Dr. Akke Suiker and Prof. Emanuela Bosco from the Technical University of Eindhoven. The group conducts related research – the study of the cracking processes of historic wood – and has experience in measuring the fracture toughness of historical oak wood in three-point bending tests.
Magda was trained in the use of the ABAQUS software and the implementation of the self-developed model of the Eindhoven group dedicated to simulate the observed processes using the finite element method. She also gave a presentation “Impact of dynamic environmental variations on massive wooden cultural objects“, which was an opportunity to share experimental results and discuss how to interpret them.
In spare time, there was even more of a cultural heritage!
